Christians Associated for Relationships with Eastern Europe -
Our Mission Statement

Christians Associated for Relationships with Eastern Europe (CAREE) is an ecumenical organization focused on the functioning of religious communities located in Eastern Europe (including the former Soviet Union) which previously were under Communist governments. Individuals as well as groups may join CAREE. Membership is not restricted to Christians; others in sympathy with CAREE’s missions and goals have joined the organization.
The aim of the organization is to maintain contacts with Christian churches as well as other religious groups, assist them by understanding and responding to their challenges and predicaments, by disseminating reliable information about them in our publications, and by being an ecumenical witness for peace, reconciliation, and justice issues in the region. CAREE also aims to be a dependable interpreter of the developments taking place in churches and religious communities during both the communist and post-communist periods for those in North America and elsewhere who seek such information.
CAREE’s mission is accomplished by holding annual meetings, conferences, travel to Eastern Europe (the term used broadly for the entire area) and publications such as Religion in Eastern Europe and the CAREE Communicator, as well as electronically disseminated reports. CAREE maintains a web site, www.caree.info.
CAREE is related to the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA and Church World Service and works closely with the Europe Forum.
